Bits and Pieces…

…from the past week, that is.  :)

Last Tuesday, January 20th, I was glued to the television like most everyone else the world over, interrupted only by pick-up duty and a conference with Abby’s teacher, which, of all days, I mistakenly scheduled on the inauguration day of America’s 44th president.  No harm done, though.  Thanks to the DVR!

Hope was in the air and the joy that a vast majority of Americans felt last Tuesday was infectious.  “Change has come to America!” and “Yes we can!” were lines that kept playing in my head as if they were lyrics to a song. For a split second, I wished President Obama was my president, too.  For a moment, I envied the more than a million people who gathered at Washington D.C. Mall and all the citizens of this country who has been host to us for almost two years now.  When I came back to reality, I felt a tender ache for my country.

I love my country, let there be no doubt about it.  In the same longing I feel for family and loved ones whom I terribly miss, I long for change, too, in my beloved Philippines.  I long for the time when my kababayans (countrymen) will come together, not anymore to oust an erring leader but to elect the right person to the highest office.  I know that we, too, can. *sigh*  May God gift us with the biggest miracle yet since the first Edsa Revolution.

Abby knew that the U.S. has a new president.  She was just a little off with the name – Rock Obama, or was it Rock-o Bama?  It was hard to distinguish between the two.  Anyway, she’s got it right now – Barack Obama.  Hee hee.

Speaking of Abby, my daughter talks a lot.  And I mean, A. LOT.  At dinner time, you won’t know how many times Hubby and I have to remind her to: eat your rice, eat your ulam (viand), don’t talk when your mouth is full, etcetera, etcetera, because she just can’t be stopped.  Hubby and I would have already had 2 helpings of rice and ulam and Abby would still be on her first helping which is probably just a quarter cup of rice!  And then she wonders when Hubby and I have finished, “Why do I always finish last?”  Hubby and I just exchange a knowing smile and shake our heads.  I’m the guilty party…Abby takes after me in as far as being a madaldal (talkative) little girl is concerned.  And if she’s really anything like me, she will outgrow this, uhm, “phase”.

I need to rent a good comedy this weekend.  Thursday night, I was up late watching recorded episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice…3 in all!  They all made me cry!  So much for entertainment.  Hee hee.  It doesn’t take much to make me cry and I should know better that drama doesn’t do much to the effort I exert in keeping myself in a state of positive vibes.  But I can’t help it.  A sucker for drama, that’s me! :)

Oh yes, my tulips.  They’ve all wilted now and on their way to the trash.  But, I haven’t told you yet what beauties my 4th vase of bulbs revealed…

Pink blooms!  I was tickled pink, I tell you!  (Photo taken on 11Jan09)

So slender, so tall and so proud looking! (Photo taken on 13Jan09)

Aren’t they gorgeous? (Photo taken on 18Jan09)

Yeah, I took a pic again the next day! :D (Photo taken 19Jan09)

Let me just share one more pic, this time of my red tulips.  I love how the sun shone on the petals of one of the blooms…

If you’re the type who cries at the sight of beautiful things, you just might be short of a mess by  now.  Kidding!  :D

Lastly, do you Facebook (FB)?  I do…shhhh. :)  I got this YouTube link from Junnie, who posted it on his FB profile.  The girl in the video, Christine, couldn’t have made a more apt description of Facebook!  She was so right on!  The video is hilarious!  Of course, you won’t get it if you don’t Facebook.  But, if you have any plans of signing up for FB, this will tell you just what you’re getting yourself into. :)

I warn you, if you sign up for FB, your so-called friends will dig photos of yourself  – yes, photos of your hideous self from the not so distant past – which you wish you burnt before you turned into the cool and sophisticated person that you are now!  ;)

After seeing this video, I got to tinkering with my FB settings to limit the sometimes bothersome feeds (Yes, they can be bothersome!) that my friends receive.  Because really, I’m sure they don’t care (at least, not all of them!) whose photo I leave a comment on, whose wall I write on and who I send a Pinoy food gift to. :)  Unfortunately, I can only do so much.  Some feeds can’t be tinkered with.  Needless to say, I did what I can do. :)

oOo

Are you still with me?  If you are, thank you!  If you’re not, I understand.  I do try to avoid posting lengthy entries.  Attention span, people! :)  But I’m simply on a roll sometimes.  Today is one of those times.

With that, I wish you all a wonderful weekend.  January 26th is Chinese New Year, so  Happy New Year, y’all! Mabuhay!
