I was watching an Oprah episode from last week that I saved on the DVR, when the phone rang. The name and number of Abby’s school flashed on the TV screen. It was 11:20 am and in 10 minutes, I’ll be on may way to pick up Abby. In the few seconds it took me to get to the phone from the couch, my mind worked double time. I wondered, I worried and told myself everything’s ok. My heart skipped a beat.
It was the school director. I took her cheerful greeting and tone as a good sign and I instantly felt relieved. Only then did I realize that I was holding my breath. It was lunch time in school and unfortunately, Abby’s lunch fell on the floor. Ms. S was asking if I will just bring something for Abby to eat. I told her I’ll go right ahead and pick-up Abby so she can just eat at home.
I was told Abby got a little upset and asked, “Can we wash it?” Haaaay, nadurog ang puso ko.
Abby was already playing with her classmates when I got to her school. It seemed she already forgot about the lunch she lost. When we got her lunch bag from her cubby, she looked like she was going to cry again, reminded perhaps of her lunch accident. Aaawwww. I asked if she wanted to have lunch at KFC. She smiled, an unmistakable yes. Hee hee. And so we had another one of our impromptu mother-daughter dates.
Abby enjoyed our lunch. She ate quite a lot! KFC saved the day.

Oh that’s a nice date after all that incident. I love to eat at KFC too. And hey, mothers are like that, nerbyoso pagdating sa mga anak. hehehe…
aaawww! at least, you got to go on a mother-daughter date :)
sa totoo lang, i also get anxious pag nagte-text sa akin yung school directress or teacher ni caitlin. i guess, we’ll always be like that :) buti na lang, i haven’t received any bad news so far. and sana it’d be that way forever :D

Ay naku, my heart stops too when I see my 6year old son’s school on the caller ID. Thankfully, I’ve only ever been called twice (*crossing fingers, knocking wood*) — to bring something back to school and to pick him up early because soccer practice was canceled.
Good thing KFC saved the day for Abby!

Mmmm… KFC! Yum! Hope Marga and I could have mom-daughter dates too someday in a “more open” environment – at sana rin mas matapang na ako mag-drive by that time! Hahaha!
Does KFC there have the yummy gravy too? Or is it just in Pinas? I’ve never seen a KFC outside the Phils with the gravy pa kasi e… :(
